I’d like to introduce another popular bar in Miyako Island. The bar is located close to Nishizato Street. Go to the north (to the direction of Miyakojima City Hall) for about 100m from the center of Nishizato Street where the site Cocostore (convenience store) once existed, and you can find the bar “soi” on the right side of the street. “Soi” means “backstreet” in Thai, but this bar doesn’t have any relation to Thailand at all. However, this bar somehow has the atmosphere of a backstreet bar.
The manager of the bar is from Miyako Island, and he used to live in Osaka. He is friendly and easy to talk to (probably he can’t speak English, though). According to the manager, there are not so many customers in the early night hours, and it is more crowded during the hours from midnight to early morning (especially after 1 or 2 am). People working at nearby restaurants and bars come to this bar for drinking after their work has finished. It is pretty dim inside the bar, so probably this is the place for night owls. The bar is big and they have several tables in addition to counter seats.
I recommend you try fruit cocktails at soi. Especially, a fruit cocktail made from kiwi was awesome. They have some light meals, too.
You can feel comfortable and enjoy drinking at this bar even if you are alone (especially if you can speak some Japanese). Although the city center of Miyako Island is quite small, there are too many places for drinking to choose from. Besides, you don’t need to care about the last train. The night of Miyako Island never ends.
