I mostly stayed at ESTINATE HOTEL in Matsuyama, Naha City while staying in the main island of Okinawa for a week.
The hotel is conveniently located along the main street (National Route 58) near Miebashi Station of Yui Rail (Okinawa Urban Monorail), and you can walk to Naha’s famous Kokusai-dori (International Street) in about 10 minutes. The taxi fare to this hotel from Naha Airport was around 1,500 yen.
I stayed at ESTINATE HOTEL for 5 nights in total, as the room rate was quite reasonable (5,200 yen on average for a standard single room including breakfast). There are a lot of hotels in Naha, which is the biggest city in Okinawa, so you can easily find a reasonable hotel especially during the low season.
The hotel provided a complimentary wine service in the evening while I stayed at, so after checking in, I asked for a glass of red wine (Spain wine) and enjoyed it in the big and comfortable restaurant located next to the lobby.
The hotel seems quite new, and the room was clean. The standard single room was compact, but it was enough for one person considering the reasonable price. The desk was big enough and easy to use, and the internet speed (Wi-Fi) was fast.
Basically the room was comfortable, but what most concerned me was that the light was dim in the room. The room doesn’t have a light on the ceiling, and except a light near the door, the room has only 2 lamps on the desk and bedside. There was no problem during the daytime as the sunlight got into the room, but it was bit uncomfortable during the nighttime (though it didn’t matter much to me as I went bar-hopping almost every night…).
The shower and toilet are in the same room, and the toilet is equipped with Washlet.
The room has a refrigerator, but they don’t have free drinks in the room such as coffee or tea. There were 2 bottles of free water on the day I checked in, but it seems that they don’t refill them.
At breakfast, I ordered a bacon egg pancake with a salad (you can choose one breakfast from several menus) at the restaurant. The taste was not bad, but I prefer a toast to a pancake. The hotel’s original blend coffee was nice. I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights, but as I went bar-hopping almost every night, I ended up having a breakfast only on the first morning.
The hotel restaurant only has Western dishes, so I wish they would add Okinawan dishes such as Okinawa soba noodle or taco rice to the menu, as it is one of the best parts of travelling to enjoy local dishes.
Many of the hotel staff were young (20s to 30s) and all of them were polite and friendly. It seems that the hotel welcomes a lot of guests from foreign countries, so most of the staff can speak English (some of them are very fluent).
The concept of this hotel is to provide the places for meeting and finding, and though I didn’t have time to participate in, they seem to hold various events in the hotel.
ESTINATE HOTEL was convenient and comfortable enough (except the room light), so it will be one of your choices if you are looking for a reasonable hotel in Naha City.
