While staying in Miyako Island (Miyakojima) for about a month in 2017, I stayed in a weekly rental condominium near Miyakojima City Hall for about three weeks, and after coming back to Miyako Island after a three-day stay in Tarama Island, I chose to stay in “Hotel Southern Coast Miyakojima” located near Painagama Beach for several days before going back to Osaka.
I stayed in the hotel for four nights, and the accommodation fee was 6,200 yen (including consumption tax and service charge) per night for a non-smoking single room (including breakfast). The receptionists were very polite (I’m not sure if they can speak English or not).
I stayed in a single room on the sixth floor. The room was clean, and was bigger than I expected. I liked the big desk space, as I work or write a blog even while travelling. And Wi-Fi (internet) speed was fast enough.
The toilet is equipped with a bidet. Nowadays, many toilets seem to be equipped with a bidet even in a remote island of Okinawa. Amenities are enough for a man travelling alone. They have cotton swabs and a toothbrush too.
The room had an ocean view. From my room, I could see Painagama Beach, Hirara Port, and the city center of Miyako Island. I tried to open the window to feel the breeze but couldn’t open it (maybe for security reasons, or maybe I did it in a wrong way?).
There is a laundry slip (for laundry service) in the room, and the hotel also has coin-operated laundry facilities.
Painagama Beach is right in front of the hotel (across the road). The beach is the one closest to the city center, and it’s popular among local people for relaxing. No matter how many times I visit the beach, it’s amazing to see such a beautiful sea spreads near the city center. There are stairs on the beach where you can sit, so it must be nice to have a lunch here.
There is a convenience store (FamilyMart) and an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) “Kaisen Goku” near the hotel. You can enjoy rich seafood dishes such as coconut crab or spiny lobster at “Kaisen Goku.” I think the restaurant is rather suitable for group customers, and its location is bit far from the city center (about 1 km), so I hadn’t visited this restaurant at night while staying in Miyako Island, but I used this restaurant for a lunch once while staying in the hotel.
I ordered “Kaisen Don (sashimi rice bowl)” (900 yen, not including consumption tax) for a lunch.
It is about 1 km from “Hotel Southern Coast Miyakojima” to the city center, so you won’t feel much inconvenience. You can walk to the city center in about 10 to 15 minutes in the sea breeze, and if you use a taxi, it will cost you around 500 yen. There is often a taxi waiting for customers in front of the hotel. And also, you can rent a bicycle from the hotel.
My stay at the hotel was pretty much comfortable (the breakfast and lunch of the hotel were also nice). If you are looking for a nice and reasonable hotel near the beach, I strongly recommend this hotel!
